Duality
Which eye do you look through? What do you see? I have always played a little game of perspective with my vision. Look at any object several feet in front of you. Focus on it for a few moments. Then close one eye and observe. It will move either left or right in relation to the background. Without moving your head, close that eye and open the other. What changes? The foreground object appears to be in a different place / relationship to the background scene. And for added interest, both the foreground object and the background are in focus. Where that is not the case using our stereo vision. You get one or the other in focus.
Duality is A, if not The basic format to life here on earth. Light / dark, up / down, male / female, land / water, right eye / left eye, sun / moon, summer / winter. Such distinctions give us the ability to define ourselves. I live up the block, I live down the street. I am a male, I am a female. I love the land, I love the water. I am a Christian, I am a Buddhist.
These become our frame of reference. A bumper sticker view of who we think we are. And who we think the “others” are. Duality can become the birthplace of separation and hatred. And at the same time, it can become a pure birthplace – male and female joining to create a child. It has such an amazing range of potential. Birth and death, war and peace, right and wrong. We are given this fundamental opportunity of creation, to fill in the blanks between those opposites. The blanks become our lives on this planet. The dramas we experience. They can be a tender touch and a smile, or the horrors of war and hatred. They give us a chance to define who we are, by observing that which we do not want to be.
A number of years ago, I experienced what I have termed a download of information from a higher source. The essence of that was referred to as the Consciousness of Unity. That has led me on this journey of discovery between the who I am, and the What I am. The What I can become. As we all can become.
Unity, the all are One, Love, God. These concept words point to that which is beyond duality, something greater than what we may see before us. However, it does not mean we have to condemn the world we find ourselves within. That only elicits judgment and more duality. Yet it does require an ever expanding perception of our world, of duality, and ourselves. We begin from, and accept where we are, and then observe. For in the final analysis, it is a journey each of us must take on our own.
Fortunately, we have assistance to do this – we are blessed with a mind to help start the process. With beings both of this earth, and beyond, who have shown the way, who approached duality with acceptance and love. As hard as it may seem to comprehend at times, we are all equal expressions of Source Consciousness. Just different locations on the journey. Where we are all on our own unique, but a shared pathway, as part of creation. Understanding this brings us to compassion. We begin to witness life through the eyes of wisdom – which is nothing more than a broader perspective on that which we observe. We can see through the heart, and express through the heart. There the purity of love illuminates our lives, bringing us gratitude and joy. Melts the duality of separation into Unity.
